Seeking Volunteers!

Clean the Banks of the Nansemond River, Suffolk
Spring Clean-Up

Saturday, March 24, 2018
9:00 AM – NOON

Meet at the Suffolk Plaza parking lot immediately behind
the Burger King, 1461 North Main Street, Suffolk.
Partnership Project – NRPA and Izaak Walton League

Volunteers will be assigned to small groups to pick up trash along the accessible areas of the river bank and along the backside of the businesses on North Main. Children 12 years and older may volunteer.
PLEASE BRING GLOVES. All those attending should wear good? footwear and long pants as the areas will require walking on uneven surfaces (Steep river bank in some areas, rocks etc.) Rubber boots would work well as the areas may have dew and tall grass.

Bottled Water and snacks will be provided.

How did we get into this “fine mess”? What can I do? What should I plant?
90 species of Virginia flora are assessed to be invasive – naturalized and out of control. Invasive vegetation proliferate and displace native species, reduce wildlife habit, alter natural processes and have a detrimental effect on natural ecosystems. Learn how to identify several invasive species, eradication methods and how to phase in planting native plants, shrubs and trees.
